Yonsei University–Metown RotGS Research Presented at Eurographics 2026 and Published in Computer Graphics Forum

A joint research paper titled “RotGS: Rotation-Guided 3D Gaussian Splatting for Turntable Sequences without Structure-from-Motion,” conducted by researchers Gyumin Kim and Haneul Baek from Yonsei University together with Dohae Lee and Inkwon Lee from Metown, has been presented at Eurographics 2026 and published in the prestigious journal Computer Graphics Forum.
The research proposes a novel 3D Gaussian Splatting method that directly estimates object rotation in turntable capture environments without requiring the traditional Structure-from-Motion (SfM) pipeline, enabling high-quality 3D reconstruction with improved efficiency.
The joint research team achieved improved reconstruction accuracy and efficiency through rotation axis optimization and rotation flow supervision, demonstrating strong potential for automated 3D asset generation pipelines.
This technology is expected to be applied across various industries including e-commerce product digitization, cultural heritage archiving, AR/VR content production, digital twins, and automated 3D asset generation.
Metown plans to integrate the research outcomes into its EVOVA neural rendering engine to further enhance automated 3D content production workflows and e-commerce product digitization technologies.
CEO Dohae Lee stated, “This research is meaningful in that it advances fast and reliable 3D reconstruction technology required in real industrial environments. We will continue strengthening EVOVA through close collaboration with academia.”
Metown also noted that its technologies have been developed with support from major Korean government programs including the Metaverse Lab Support Project funded by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
